Film Noir Was first introduced at the Hollywood. Film Noir is a cinematic term used to describe the style of Hollywood movies that crime dramas, particularly those emphasizing the ambiguous moral and sexual motivation. Hollywood classic film noir period is usually considered to stretch from the early 1940s until the late 1950s. Film noir of this era is associated with black-and-white visual style in low lighting rooted in German Expressionist cinematography, while many of the stories prototype and attitude of classic noir detective fiction comes from the stream that emerged in the United States during the Depression.
The term film noir, French for "black film", first applied to Hollywood films by French critic Nino Frank in 1946, was unrecognized by most American film industry professionals of that era. Cinema historians and critics defined the category retrospectively. Before the notion was widely adopted in the 1970s, many of the classic films noirs were referred to asmelodramas. Whether film noir qualifies as a distinct genre is a matter of ongoing debate among scholars.

Background
Film noir aesthetics are deeply influenced by German Expressionism, an artistic movement of the 1910s and 1920s that involved theater, photography, painting, sculpture, and architecture, as well as cinema. The opportunities offered by the booming Hollywood film industry, and, later, the threat of growing Nazi power, led to the emigration of many important film artists working in Germany who had either been directly involved in the Expressionist movement or studied with its practitioners. Fritz Lang's M (1931), shot only a few years before his departure from Germany, is among the first major crime films of the sound era to join a characteristically noirish visual style with a noir-type plot, one in which the protagonist is a criminal (as are his most successful pursuers). Directors such as Lang, Robert Siodmak, and Michael Curtiz brought a dramatically shadowed lighting style and a psychologically expressive approach to visual composition, or mise-en-scène, with them to Hollywood, where they would make some of the most famous of classic noirs.

Kala (Dead Time : Kala), or also known as (The Secret) is a 2007 Indonesian film noir thriller directed by Joko Anwar and starring Fachri Albar, Ario Bayu, Shanty and Fahrani. It was the second feature film for Joko, who previously directed the 2005 comedy film, Joni's Promise. Kala is also known by the full title Dead Time: Kala is the first Indonesian film genre of film noir and said critics as an innovation in the history of Indonesian cinema.
